WITCH HAZEL FACIAL TONER

Impurities can build up on the skin as we go about our day. Chemical pollutants in busy cities can be particularly nasty to sensitive skin, causing it to dry out, break out, or become blotchy and irritated. Though we don’t suggest packing up your city living just yet, we do suggest making an addition to your skincare regime.

Witch hazel extract has been lauded for its benefits for centuries. Pulled from the bark and leaves of the witch hazel plant, the extract is rich in tannin. Tannin which can be found in tea, is known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it the perfect ingredient in a powerful but sensitive facial toner.

The lavender essential oil helps soothe irritated skin, whilst also working with the witch hazel to eradicate harmful buildups of pollutants and oils. Lavender has also been used throughout ancient history as a means to help heal and disinfect wounds. Sufferers of acne or psoriasis will find this DIY particularly beneficial as it not only cleanses the skin, but also heals it.

By adding frankincense essential oil, a powerful astringent, to the facial toner, the oil helps repair and protect skin cells. It also reduces the size of pores, and is a known anti-aging oil that works to tighten skin and reduce the signs of fine lines.

WITCH HAZEL FACIAL TONER
(Makes one 250ml spray bottle)

1 cup witch hazel
12 drops lavender essential oil
8 drops frankincense essential oil

Pour the witch hazel into a jug, and add the essential oils. Using a funnel, carefully pour the toner into an amber glass spray bottle. The amber glass helps preserve the oils for longer, allowing the toner to be kept at room temperature for up to two months. For a revitalising morning routine, keep the toner in the fridge. The cold toner will help reduce swelling and puffiness and leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the day.
