SLEEP AID SPRAY

Stress can build up in our lives in funny ways. You’d never think that the need to check the oil in your car, or taking a faulty item back to the store would keep you up at night. When people talk about stress, it’s often associated with work performance, family altercations, and money struggles. Unfortunately, stress is a many headed beast, and can rear its said ugly head at the strangest of times.

In times of stress, one of the first things it affects is our sleep. Before you know it, you’re tucked into bed by 10.30, but still wide awake at 2.30. Reducing stress can be complicated, but the use of natural remedies to help calm people down has been used by British Kings and Queens, Roman Emperors, and Egyptian Pharoahs.

We have rummaged through the history books and science journals to discovery the very best essential oils for reducing anxiety and promoting sleep.

Famously recognised worldwide as a sleep aid, lavender is the most popular and widely used essential oil to alleviate stress. The plant has been recognised by scientists as a powerful oil that has been found to reduce stress in ICU patients in scientific studies. It is also recommended by medical professionals as a natural and noninvasive treatment for sleeplessness.

Sandalwood pairs beautifully with lavender oil, and in a recent clinical trial was found to have a calming effect on the central nervous system, helping to promote sleep. As one of the oldest recognised oils for aromatherapy uses, sandalwood has been used for at least 4000 years, and is one of the best essential oils for insomnia.

Cedarwood’s uplifting and comforting scent brings the tranquility of nature into your bedroom. The oil supports the function of the the pineal gland, which releases melatonin, the hormone that makes you feel sleepy.

The mix of these three wonderful oils will leave you calm and well rested, and ready to face that oil change.

SLEEP AID SPRAY
Makes 250ml of spray

12 drops lavender essential oil
8 drops sandalwood essential oil
4 drops cedarwood essential oil
1/2 tsp vodka
240 ml distilled water

AMBER BOTTLE SPRAY

In a bowl, combine the essential oils, vodka and water. Using a funnel, pour the mixture into the spray bottle. The amber glass spray bottle will help keep your spray for longer, and the vodka helps the spray to dry quickly, so your pillow isn’t damp when you go to sleep.

Though the vodka doesn’t affect the scent of your spray, it can be replaced by witch hazel or rubbing alcohol, but these might alter the scent of your sleep spray.

When you’re ready for bed, shake the bottle well and spray onto your pillows. If you’re looking for some extra relaxation before bed, wash and condition your hair with Goodwash lavender, rose geranium and argan oil shampoo and conditioner. Let the lavender in your hair and on your pillow ease you into a relaxed, stress free slumber.
